House Style - Our core house style is usually described as ‘Contemporary classic’. In practice, our clients usually employ our services because they live in a more classical property and want to bring a contemporary touch to the final interior, or because they live in a more modern setting and want their interior to have a longer lasting, more classic look. A key element to this approach is longevity. We are pleased to say that the first project we ever undertook still looks good today, and has not dated.
We also treat each project as a one off and although we have our core house style, this is just a starting point. When taking a brief, we listen to the clients requirements and interpret them, and also let the architecture and location of the job dictate the final design.
For a more in-depth outline of our approach, please see the article in the Books section, under the publications heading: ‘Designers at Home’
‘Bricks to cushions’ – In an ideal job, we are directly involved in every aspect of the design and co-ordination, from building work through to the finishing touches of soft furnishings and accessories. We aim to achieve a totally co-ordinated look and this is the only way to achieve the correct finished result. (See ‘In house skills’ section) The only areas we prefer to involve the use of a surveyor or architect is for projects requiring major heavy duty building works and additions, where planning consent is a requirement.
Comfort – Comfort and luxury are a very important part of our design outlook. Our definitions of these qualities are rooted in good design and ergonomics as much as tactile materials. As an example, if you have a comfortable reading armchair, it is vital that there is a lamp, table, telephone and possible even a drink with easy reach. If you are in your bathroom or kitchen, heating, ventilation power and storage are a vital consideration. All the activities of everyday life need to be a consideration, right down to practical matter, such as cleaning and storage of clothes. Of course, visual and tactile luxury are important too, so we often make use of stretched fabric walls, specialist painting, timber panelling and other sumptuous finishes.
